Los Angeles Times4.1 quake strikes near Rowland Heights; felt over wide area < has MAP

… it is 27 miles from San Onofre NPP. The big one was about the same distance. A 2.6 quake was same distance too and probably a lot of aftershocks too.

These quakes seem to be an odd sort of quake for the California coast. Should be a lot more shaking feeling, especially for their size, but residents are describing a long, rolling motion. Haven’t heard any authorities address that. I lived there. They are odd sort of quakes for Calif.

There are lots of quakes up at Alaska and many in South America … maybe its sort of a chain gang quake…

Interesting article/theory. Not something I would have considered but I’m not trained to either 🙂 I suppose the additional weight of a fuller lake would stress the faults. I still find it odd that residents are describing “rolling” motion rather than shaking. Not typical for the larger Calif quakes…maybe the smaller ones. Will be interesting to watch and see what happens there.
