On February 1, 2010, I was surprised and happy to see Mrs. Henrietta Lacks open up the internet on the first day of Black History Month. But, I soon became disillusioned when I realized that her life had been rewritten, marginalized and commercialized by a romancer, while the perpetrators of crimes against her (humanity) had been veiled.

According to a romanced history of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skott, she entered Johns Hopkins University clinic suffering from bleeding from a cancerous cervical tumor. A doctor sliced a tissue culture from her tumor and it just so happened to grow on its own into the infamous and extremely profitable Immortal HeLa Cell Line. For the first time in recorded medical history, human tissue cells survived the death of its host.
