Indian Point Shuts Unit 2

7 03 2016

They began slowing it down Mar. 4.

Indian Point Unit 2 is operating at 0% power.

Today several nuke plants are offline, doing “repairs” or just plain shut off.

Seabrook    Unit 1    is at  35% power

Grand Gulf – no info

Vogtle has construction

Browns Ferry shut Feb. 20 for refueling. Does it really take that long? Maybe they are doing repairs too.

Calvert Cliffs shut down for refuel and repairs Feb. 19

La Salle is getting refueled and they are doing a lot of maintenance work there

Brunswick had an “abnormal event” (electric panel blew) in Feb. — maybe they have delays fixing it, cleaning up after. Well, MAYBE THE IAEA SHOULDN’T’VE SHOT THIS DOWN:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is denying a petition for rulemaking (PRM) submitted by the Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc. (NRDC), and Mr. Paul M. Blanch (collectively, the petitioners) on June 18, 2012. The petitioners requested that the NRC amend its regulations to clearly and unequivocally require the environmental qualification of all safety-related cables, wires, splices, connections and other ancillary electrical equipment that may be subjected to submergence and/or moisture intrusion during normal operating conditions, severe weather, seasonal flooding, and seismic events, and post-accident conditions, both inside and outside of a reactor's containment building. The NRC is denying this petition because the current regulations already address environmental qualification in both mild and design basis event conditions of electrical equipment located both inside and outside of the containment building that is important to safety, and the petition does not provide significant new or previously unconsidered information sufficient to justify rulemaking.

yeah?  Then why is Brunswick STILL out because of your lousy connection regs??

North Anna – no info …but it’s on a bunch a big fault lines and they want to pile on more reactors(!)

We’ll add in here when we get info on all these plants. – FC

IAEA shutdown manual

River Bend website: atom2 WHAT TO DO IN NUKE PLANT EMERGENCY  (Indian Point won’t give this info) They say tune in to Emergency Alert Broadcast System – but that system STOOD DOWN on 9-11. Not a peep out of them all day in NYC and not a peep after. Good for nothing! River Bend area residents get ‘protective action sections’ – places to flee to in an emergency (map on p.5). New Yorkers get nothing.
