RSOE REPORT – MAP
“Federal officials early Thursday activated an Emergency Operations Center and sent crews to a reported incident at a nuclear site in eastern Idaho. The U.S. Department of Energy in a statement said it’s gathering information about the incident at the 890-square-mile (2,305-square-kilometer) site that includes the Idaho National Laboratory. Officials haven’t released details about the type of incident reported at the Radioactive Waste Management Complex…”
It’s an “incident” … move along, nothing to see here ….
UPDATE:
Nuke Pro found out what it was … a “radioactive sludge barrel rupture” ….
DETAILS – (4-12) Another Radioactive Barrel Heading to WIPP Explodes
The Idaho Statesman – Drum of radioactive sludge ruptures at INL waste complex
Mining Awareness – Smoldering Nuclear Waste Barrel Fire At Idaho National Nuclear Lab
” . . . According to the Idaho National Lab web site: “INL is the nation’s lead laboratory for nuclear energy research, development, demonstration and deployment…” In short, they are the lead lab for promoting more nuclear and creating more nuclear waste. But, Idaho managed to sue and get a sweetheart of a deal that says they don’t keep nuclear waste in their state! And, so the nuclear waste barrel which caught fire was to go to the crammed full of nuclear waste and collapsing salt bed mine called WIPP in New Mexico, which has already had a nuclear waste fire.“
More details came out on this, if same “issue” exploding radiation barrels ready to go to WIPP, staged in a “transfer building” with an earthen floor. See nukepro

Idaho is the only US national lab that ONLY promotes nuclear. Yet, they got the government to agree that they keep no waste only the fat cat jobs. They are the site of the only immediately lethal nuclear accident (I think it’s called SL-2) and the area around the lab looks like the moon (not to be confused with the pretty areas to the west in Idaho where there is actually a low level rad dump). It is arid and cool, Idaho is very low population, so could be a good site for an above ground (maybe even underground) permanently monitored rad waste storage site. They have one activist who says they can’t keep it because of an aquifer but everywhere has aquifers. Instead of promoting nukes they can pay them to monitor the waste. But, no, they got it rigged to dump it in arid, HOT places (New Mex and Tex) where people are poor and where it’s surrounded by oil wells which are probably one reason WIPP collapsed (besides it’s designed to collapse.). I just saw that Mississippi Emergency Management had an exercise for WIPP waste transport (maybe explains the run on my Elvis and Tennessee post) but Louisiana hasn’t had theirs since 2014 that I find and they are supposed to have them every two years. Someone has to take the rad waste and it makes sense that it be a national lab. Idaho is actually importing foreign waste and making experiments and then probably sending the remains to WIPP. At least the mafia put the rad sludge in lead containers in Italy so they do a better job.

PS – I wonder how much else they are leaking. And, how much of the rad materials moves across with front lines. I’ve noticed lately that as front lines trek across that my Geiger often triples from normal (though background has increased too). I thought it was being pulled down from the arctic but maybe Idaho.

They are trying so hard to hide it too! I finally figured out where the news releases were … it took me about 10 times getting up from my desk to finally think of where it was hidden. Meanwhile I noticed that LANL is researching Zika… which reminded me of one of my many unposted posts which pretty much proves that Zika could be caused by nuclear. Why is LANL’s “supercomputer” doing it? Why not CDC? I am trying to do a post on the leak mostly because they are hiding it….
On the waste being on earth I think that’s the older waste which they just buried and are digging up. They had moved it to another facility where it supposedly leaked but was HEPA filtered, which means that it might have started leaking before.

Looks like Stock is probably right and they didn’t bother to put a floor or plastic even once they dug it up (then pretend to worry about the aquifer). Not sure what this is but looks like where they had earlier shipments stored. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ARRA-funded_Accelerated_Retrieval_Project_III_completed_at_the_DOE_Idaho_Site_(7582958690).jpg

you will find a lot if you look up Zika and “Monsanto”. They put mosquito pesticide into the drinking water system (made by Monsanto) and rapidly babies came out wrong. Many articles on it.

Thanks. I will leave that to others. If I ever get the article relating nuclear disaster and Zika like conditions up I will be happy.
By the way, now WIPP is paying almost double Idaho National Lab. So, they really should build an adequate facility and keep it while shutting down their new nuclear projects. If they have the “expertise” to run INL then they could run a (better than) WIPP like facility. The climate is more appropriate and population much lower but I guess the Mormons don’t want it though they have put up with the nuclear waste dump near Salt Lake City. The stuff has to go someplace.
I think it is LANL that pays so much but they are hot arid with fires so a less good spot than INL.
It just makes me crazy that even Bernie Sanders had no qualms of burying Vermont waste in west Texas.

Great posts, y’all! I was up a lot last night reading a bunch of this and watching the video narrated by Robert Redford about WIPP. I wasn’t aware of how much activism and attempts to fight against it in NM was happening in the late 80’s. It’s real concerning to me to hear Nikki Haley being so vocal about these Syrian attacks as she was SC’s nuke Governor and she’s going to keep on pushing for nuclear war.
