He was near last in his graduating class at Annapolis … that he only got into because his dad was a big deal in the Navy.
And his POW story is faked… I understand he sang like a canary when captured (a real trick of incompetence by a pilot) and was hated by fellow soldiers who did not receive hotel treatment in N. VN.
I was lucky enough to get inside this graduation where he talked (on run up to presidential run) — and a real coup as the valedictorian speaker got a hold of his speech in advance and countered it to his face –

Most poster just don’t see that the covert war against the USSR still brought us into the mess we currently have.
The plot to get rid off it by a non-nuclear war, triggered by Olof Palme’s assignation, in a plan to blame it on Moscow, like the CiA’s plan for assassinating JFK, went awey similarly because some of the agents involved, especially its Rick Ames and the Bureau’s Robert Hanssen, refused to go along and Putin took countermeasures so it wouldn’t, resulting in a long, drawn-out process so people would not make all the East-West ramificatons involved in Iran-Contra.
Hanssen was finally caught on the eve of 9/11, and the Agency took over unarmed countermeasures because it didn’t trust the FBI to deal with the 19 hijackers who turned out to be suicide bombers, making for the vast fiasco that has followed.

I recall the NY head of the local FBI field office appeared with that mysterious ‘broken arm’ and the FBI team working on 9-11 and WTC etc. was handed off to out of town FBI team with no explanation ….

I hold former FBI Director Robert Mueller responsible for taking a powder himself while respectable cops like Freeh and O’Neil were chased off which prevented effective counterterrorism. allowing the suicide bombers to do their damnedest, especially on the first plane that hit the WTC since it had no security agents at all on board.
