Hatti was hit by a M4.6 today. Heard about this from the earthquake guy.

https://ibb.co/BPGHzpw

When he first saw the quake, the USGS wasn’t reporting anything. He originally reported the quake’s epicenter at 195 km.

Too many Puerto Rican, Dominican Republic earthquakes in the Caribbean to keep listing. Central California, Azores Islands, and offshore Oaxacala, Mexico are also experiencing earthquake swarms.

Same area had a M5.1 earthquake at a depth of 2km about 15 minutes earlier. Does this 0km depth earthquake mean that magma in the undersea mountain range is flowing closer to the surface?

this is such a long lasting quake swarm …. near the Mona Passage on the west side of PR … it is beginning to resemble NZ on the quake map.

I was trying to figure out if there were any significant faults or land features to account for so many shallow earthquakes off the south to southwestern shore of Puerto Rico. The cause of the quakes off the northwestern shore of Puert Rico is pretty obvious.

I don’t want to use a “National Geographic Society” map without giving them credit with a name on the bottom of the map. I don’t know how the rules work?

I’ve included 3 different maps in my collage to help pinpoint the location and terrain of this mornings M4.4 earthquake. The earthquakes off the southwestern shore of Puerto Rico are becoming stronger and more numerous. Notice that the map of the Puertorecan trench is sideways, and I’ve drawn a direction key on the map.

all of these island groups, PR, Virgins Islands etc. – long ago were one big land mass. The sea washed in and separated them into smaller island masses. They have volcanoes as origins.
I hope the volcanoes stay asleep as insurance doesn’t over your house damage in case one wakes up.

I can see Saba in the daytime. I have climbed to the top some years ago. Fantastic view from there. It used to be a pirate’s look out. Pirates who robbed pirates hid out there.

The more active volcano in the area is way down off the coast of VZ. The Kick ’em Jenny volcano has been rumbling this year.

Puerto Rico Trench – Wikipedia
Excerpt:
Earthquake history
On 11 October 1918, the western coast of Puerto Rico was hit by a major earthquake which caused a tsunami. The 1918 earthquake was caused by an old left-lateral strike-slip fault near the Mona Passage. In 1953, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was affected by the Santo Domingo earthquake. The actual subduction zone (Puerto Rico Trench) has not ruptured in over 200 years, which is a major concern to geophysicists, as they believe it may be due for a major event.
