Hopefully impeachment will keep them too busy to pass S386, whether amended or unamended. It may be a good time to call your Senator to oppose S386. Republican Senators may be happy to hear about a topic other than impeachment. Unfortunately, we have not kept up with HR 5430. With Schiff and Nadler in charge, this impeachment will be worth listening to.

Thanks for the reblog. Is that the new NAFTA? I suspect it is but haven’t had time to look it up. They were supposed to try to run through S386 -giving all work related green cards to India and doubling family joining for India, Mexico, Philippines, and a few more -on Wednesday and I hope that their hands are tied now. The amendments mean all sorts of additional people can sit indefinitely in the US awaiting their green cards – currently the case only for H1Bs.

Apparently HR 5430 is very bad and may have an effectively open borders provision, among other things. That’s just based on quickly glancing through this. I thought I recalled it was bad, but can’t keep up: https://www.votervoice.net/mobile/JBS/Campaigns/69983/Respond

I think they want an overt smuggling route all the way from Mexico to Canada to move drugs, people, guns and to traffic children.

It is also opposed by the Sierra Club for other reasons: https://www.sierraclub.org/trade/oppose-trumps-nafta

There is apparently already a free movement of people to the US from Canada if you are “in the know”. Also vice versa. I wish I had known years ago. Once again they don’t have to prove no Americans available and bringing them in for jobs in fields where there is already too much labor. I guess it’s to avoid paying in retirement.

The American ones prove that they can be good. The Brits come under H1B I guess. We’ve had Canadian ones for a long time (well before NAFTA). I always figured it was because they could get famous in a small market in Canada. The same for singers. Look at Sidney Poitier, too. And, they used at least some Jamaicans for black news anchors. The British ones are the most insulting though, because we revolted against them and no right of return, but they’ve the right to come to the USA.

I feel it is illegal to hire a Brit anchor over and American who is qualified. Goes on in many industries to avoid paying retirement, sick-days etc.

I agree that it should be illegal, but it isn’t. Everyone thinks it’s illegal because it is common sense that it should be illegal. I bet some of the earlier anchors from Canada came under earlier H-Visas or some other scheme.

For that matter I think they should hire an American regardless. People need to be able to work in their own countries. A monkey can probably be trained to read news.

Once they get their citizenship then they get retirement, too. It’s the ones who come as temps and are sent or go home that don’t.

That’s one of the thing about S386. People from India came under H1B and displaced Americans and now they complain that their green card quota is backlogged. Where the trick lies is they can come as temps on H1B but once they apply for green cards they are supposed to look for Americans but they advertise in a paper that no one reads. Plus once the person has worked for 5 years or so on H1B then they have the experience. These “temp” workers are robbing older workers of their jobs, but also keeping new workers from getting experience needed to get jobs.

Say a foreign PhD gets a tenure track position on H1B but once they come up for tenure and green card they are supposed to prove they can’t find an American but after five years in the department they have the experience and are almost de facto the best fit. So, the American PhDs are left with nothing but lost life, lost time and often debt. The worst is that no one was told or warned. Rather everyone was told to go back to school and then they get out and they import more immigrant professionals (and non-professionals).

Probably the increasing rate of suicide among white working class women who only have high school degrees or less is that their jobs are being taken by those with college or grad degrees. Also, their husbands don’t have good jobs either.

Now I recall that one of those British comedians that is now popular did an inaccurate show on immigration and said he came under a “talent” “O” visa (like Melania did). There’s another thing – there are plenty of Americans who could be models, too. Anyway, he said “I know what you are thinking and just F off”. So, I wanted to do a post on him called the F-O visa but never got around to it.

A few Congressmen have written a letter complaining about H2B and human trafficking but it exists with H1B, J-1 and some other visas, if you look at the Polaris project trafficking document that they referenced. I think the missing in Haiti Monica worked with Polaris didn’t she? Now it’s a Chinese woman.

They passed NAFTA 2.0. I guess if I would have known about it then I would have been stressed for nothing, because there was probably no stopping it.
