How Israel Became A Global Terrorist Power

By Trowbridge H. Ford

After World War II nearly everyone thought  the idea Jewish diaspora could establish a new home in occupied Palestine was remote, and that it was impossible that it could expand after the end of the Cold War into a serious world power. There were just too many Jews left in Europe and safe in the United States to even think of immigrating to Palestine. The communist states were safe havens for many Jews, and the British occupiers of Palestine were doing everything they could to keep the population there from growing. Somehow revolutionary-minded Jews there had to think of some way to get the United Kingdom from remaining.

There were so few Jews in Palestine that the British thought of portioning Palestine but that only persuaded them to increase their numbers. Soon as many as 2,000 Jews were going through Austria a month, and an armed struggle of bombing hotels where British officials were staying commenced.  Menachem Begin organized the Zionist forces forces from Poland before coming to Palestine in 1942, and native Yitzak Rabin’s Haganak forces proved just too hot for London to handle in Jerusalem in  1948 during the war of liberation. In countering British efforts to close the ratlines of refugees, especially those in Vienna, coming from Europe, the incipient Israeli security service, the Mossad,  placed its head of station in “London’s confidence”, Gordon Corera has written in The Art of Betrayal (p. 32-3) by using American protection to more than meet MI6 efforts.

Taking the Jewish struggle to Europe was much in evidence when the British and the French organized the Suez fiasco eight years later to meet the Arab spring, especially in Egypt under Gamal Nasser. By Britain trying to wash its hands of Palestinian problems, and withdrawing east of Suez, they created all kinds of difficulties, particularly the overthrow of the monarchs in Syria, Iraq, and Egypt, and a close call in Jordan. London and Paris used problems about maintaining the Suez Canal, and financing the Aswan Dam as excuses to oust Nasser. The French worked out a plan by which an attack would force Nasser to retreat from the Canal, and British an French forces would take over for the Israelis, but the tables were turned by Nasser getting international opinion behind him, the Soviets threatening military Involvement, and Washington refusing to support its Western Allies in their adventure.

While this was going on, Israel’s discrete cooperation with Iran finally paid off with the restoration of the Shah to full power in Iran at the expense of Mohammed Mossadeq’s government which had just nationalized the Anglo-Iranian Oil monopoly, resulting in Mossadeq assuming dictatorial powers with popular approval. Instead of contesting this, the Shah fled to Iraq and then to Rome, hoping for the Anglo-Americans to intervene. MI6 and the CIA provided the popular spark for the coup, breaking the wall of isolation between Iran and Israel. One of the principal tasks of the Mossad had been to facilitate the transfer of Iraqi Jews to Palestine, And once the Shah was made a dictator, the Mossad had a field-day in this process, as William Shawcross has written in The Shah’s Last Ride, p.72, with Iran’s secret service SAWAK.

A Step towards Nuclear Arms

With the humiliating Suez debacle, Israel recognized as an established state, it had to start working directly with France to make atomic bombs under the direction of sometime Prime Minister Davd Ben-Gurion and Minister of Defense Shimon Peres. In November 1956, the French Army agreed to give Israel all it knew about making nuclear weapons. The following May, France approved the construction of a large Israeli- nuclear reactor in the Negev Desert. Plutonium can be extracted from spent fuel rods. A decade later, Israel tested an underground device of its A-bomb design at Dimona in the Negev.  In its construction 200 pounds of enriched uranium that the Mossad had purchased from Zelman Shapiro, an Israeli sympathizer, in Ohio seems to have come in handy, Thomas Reed reported in The Nuclear Express, p. 88.

Armed with atomic weapons, Israel mounted a pre-emptive attack on Syria and Egypt, its nearest neighbors to let the Muslim world that it meant business. The biggest problem with the Six Days War was that Israel had not informed the LBJ government in Washington what was afoot, so when the USS Liberty, an NSA surveillance ship, showed up off the Sinai while the Israeli Defense Force was massacring 1,800 Egyptian POWs, Chief of Staff Rabin took it as a hostile act, and tried to have it sunk.  The attack certainly didn’t look good for the Mossad.

In retrospect, the Israelis realized that they had to be more focused in their killings. Pre-emptive attacks upon enemies and massacres of their soldiers would not work just because one could back them up with nuclear bombs . . .  as if used they would kill their own forces too. The realization of this was some what muted by the Black September attack on the Israeli athletes at the 1972 Summer Games in Munich. In response to those killings, Prime Minister Golda Meir ordered the Mossad to kill everyone, even wives and children, of those connected to Black September to be assassinated by its agents.  The lesson caused Israel to be off guard when Egypt attacked Sinai from across the Suez, and Syria attacked the Golan Heights during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

To achieve more effective nuclear weapons, Moshe Dayan visited South Africa, and Peres then established diplomatic relations with John Vorster’s isolated apartheid regime. As Thomas Reed reported, Israel had hijacked several hundred tons of uranium ore which was purchased by a Mossad front, and then ended up in Israel after it had been transferred from a renamed Turkish freighter into an Israeli one. Then a nuclear test on the Kalahari Desert was only cancelled because of US spying by the NSA of its preparation, and South Africa was producing high grade U-235.
Cooperation between the two countries got so bad it was totally denied years later after the apartheid regime had fallen.

The End of the Pahlavies.

The Shah got so carried way by the Mossad and CIA approach to assassinating dissidents that he started trying to do it in the States. In all this, Nixon  appointed Richard Helms American Ambassador to Tehran after he had fired him as Director of Central Intelligence. The Shah was becoming more authoritarian and too Western secular, out of touch with the Iranian people by too rapidly modernizing the country. He was soon ousted. The only compensation for his loss was the Egyptians and Israelis finally making efforts to achieve peace. To strengthen its nuclear position, the Israelis and South Africans tested a nuclear device in the South Atlantic near its Prince Edward and Marion Islands. In June, 1981, the Israeli Air Force destroyed the nuclear reactor that Saddam Hussein was building in Osirak, Iraq.

In this political context, Israel became willing to become a junior partner in the NATO alliance to get rid of the Soviet bloc and the USSR. Its first target was getting rid of Swedish statsminister, Olof Palme whose policies in the international arena and domestic economic ones at home were no longer acceptable. He seemed like a Soviet stooge in the Baltic, and supporting economically most secretly the ANC in South Africa. In 1982, when Palme returned to power, the previous government had scheduled a naval exercise in the Archipelago east of Stockholm, code name NOTVARP, to test the Swedish Navy’s ability to meet alleged Soviet intrusions. The Swedes took their assignment most seriously, sinking, it seems, up to three US Navy subs: the USS Batfish, the USS Puffer, and  a submersible. To keep the facts still secret now, the Pentagon recently claimed that the Navy was looking for the missing subs, the USS Scorpion and the USS Thresher when it discovered the remains of the Titanic. Those subs had been found shortly after their disappearance, and the Yanks were just lying again through their teeth.

To compound hated Palme’s problems after he had been re-elected in 1985, he stopped a shipment of 80 Israeli HAWK missiles through Sweden as part of the Iran-Contra plot. Israel was happy to help in the plot since it would get newer missiles to replace those sent to Iran, and Sweden was expected to sign user certificates for their use so the Pentagon deal would go through. But Palme refused to do so when the Ei-Al plane with them aboard was approaching Sweden. Even ace-fixer, Oliver North went to Stockholm to get the statsminister to change his mind, but he refused to do so. As a result, he was set up for assassination at Soviet expense to trigger a non-nuclear conclusion of the Cold War.

Here Israel coughed up Josef Fritzl , aka the ‘Mad Austrian’ as the assassin. Fritzl is now a famous practitioner of incest for imprisoning his daughter Elizabeth in their basement to endure his sexual abuse, and mothering many of his children. Back then, he was known for wild womanizing which apparently resulted in the murder of a young woman, making him an ideal set up for blackmail.  With Elizabeth heavily pregnant with another of Josef’s children, the white supremacist had to find sex elsewhere, and chose Sweden where prostitution was legal. The ‘Mad Austrian’ was overheard making threats against Palme a few days before the assassination, was allegedly seen outside the cinema that the Palmes were attending before the killing, and their son Martem was persuaded that he was the killer. “In the morning,” Jan Bondeson has written in Blood On The Snow, “the Austrian was finally located, he had spent the night with a prostitute…” (p.61).  A police patrol confirmed that he was nowhere near the shooting when it occurred. Little wonder that Bondeson later repeated the unfounded claim that the Mossad, the CIA, and the Kurdish separatists were behind the assassination.

The Cold War Never Stopped

With the peaceful collapse of the USSR, and the Oslo agreement between the Yasser Arafat and the Israeli Rabin and Peres seemed to put history on a more stable footing, a new Cold War with Putin appeared, and a round of assassinations deeply involving the Mossad proved otherwise. The 9/11 cock-ups and the war on terrorism got Mossad director Meir Dagan deeply involved. The killings that come to mind are those of right-wing Austrian politician Jorg Haider, German politician Jurgen Mollemann, Royal Cadet in Britain Steve Hilder, Serbia politician Zoran Djindjic, English weapons inspector Dr. David Kelly, Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn, Israeli politician Rabin, Russian exile Sasha Litvinenko, Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh, and PLO leader Arafat. Israel hoped to exploit these eliminations by the adoption of its Mediterranean Dialogue by its Islamic neighbors and the exploitation of its unofficial position on NATO’s Governing Council.

The most interesting attempted assassination was that of New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clark in 2004 to expand Israeli influence beyond NATO’s scope. Clark was well aware of what had happened to Swedish Social Democrats Olof Palme and Anna Lindh, and she didn’t take lightly the attempt by Mossad agents Uriel Kalman and E li Cara to steal the passport  of a New Zealand paraplegic so that Mossad hitman Zev Barkan could escape without being noticed. The fraud was discovered shortly after it started, and Barkan disappeared before he could be caught. Barkan was planning to kill some official, apparently the Prime Minister. New Zealand suspended diplomatic relations with Israel, and cancelled the state visit of Israeli President Moshe Katsav.  Mossad agents had tried to kill the leader of Hamas earlier in Jordan using stolen passports. The controversy lasted for a couple of years, and was only resolved when Israeli Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon apologized, and said it would never happen again. Ignorant people could not understand why Clark was so concerned by the attempt.

I was also a victim of assassination attempts. In Portugal, Jose Flour, the owner of Supatra restaurant in Caldas da Rainha, tried to kill me by putting some poison in my sweet and sour fish dish. The effort continued after I moved to Sweden by rabid anti-Semite Ivan Romanov aka Ivan von Birchan. It was expressed so often and gratuitously that I suspected he worked for the Israelis. He tried to get me to drink apparently a poisoned libation when he said he arranging for all my articles to be published by some unnamed power, apparently China, which never happened. Bondeson dismissed von Birchan’s claims about CIA involvement as those of “a swindler and habitual liar…” (p. 76). von Birchan was a friend of CIA agent Oswald LeWinter, and I know from personal experience that he knew a lot about what was happening. He still tried to kill me when I moved from Sweden and others with me back to the USA. Ultimately, I think they concluded that I would be more trouble dead than alive.

I think that this influenced their other operations, getting white supremacists or Arab scapegoats to kill Muslims or appear to do so. This explains Anders Breivik and French counter terrorists setting up Mohammad Marah as the killer of those whites around Toulouse.  In multi-cultured Europe, the whites were becoming a victimized minority, and they should do something dramatic to stop the rot. The financing was to sell Nazi treasure and relics to neo-Nazis, like the entrance sign to the Auschwitz extermination camp in Austria, and to kill as many white supporters as possible as happened in Oslo and on the social democrat island up north in Norway. The process didn’t need any kind of organization; just create as much chaos as possible, and publicize what was going to happen.

The New Approach to Making Terrorism

Upon reflection, the Mossad decided that much had to be changed in this approach. It needed a manager to handle it. And can you believe that the job was apparently given to Josef Fritzl in Austria. After he had finally been caught, and sent to mental hospitals for treatment he was released in 2017. He was the right guy for dealing with right-wing losers like Australia’s Brenton Tarrant and Austria’s Identity Party leader Martin Sellner. And Fritzl was given plenty of funds to keep them going wherever they were needed, like in New Zealand which had plenty of white folks, and very few Muslim immigrants. The general population could be expected to side with the whites, and blame the Muslims for being there. Prime Minister, Jacinda Adhern reacted to the massacre to a tee by making gun control on the islands stricter by acting as if it had killed the 60 visitors. It was a much more sensible approach to the problem than trying to assassinate Helen Clark.

Looks more and more that Netanyahu is going to win the parliamentary election with the Golan Heights declared part of Israel, Jerusalem its capital, and the Palestinians still cooped up on the West Bank and in Gaza.  In fact, Israel will annex the territory where the illegal Israeli settlements were built on the West Bank. It looks like Israel, like a great power, can pretty much do whatever it wants.

Getting Away With Suzanne Jovin’s Murder Was Osama Bin Laden’s Biggest Coup:
Helps Explain His Own Belated Murder And The  Disposal Of His Body At Sea

Trowbridge Ford

While almost everyone has heard now of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda, it was certainly not the case a generation ago.  Terrorism was essentially an intrastate problem where some religious or ethnic group was having to deal with an autocracy, particularly ones created by collapsing empires, especially Russia’s.

This condition started to change radically in the wake of the Lockerbie disaster when Muammar Gaddafi and various Muslims called for a holy war against the West in response. To divert attention away from London and Washington because of its fallout from trying to blame their assassination of Sweden’s Olof Palme for a,non-nuclear conclusion to the Cold War with the Soviets, they  contrived to blame Libya for the disaster, and it…

Recalling US retaliation using earthquake weapon on China for spy nabbing in 2008

22 05 2017

This is all about the NY Times item on Saturday – Killing C.I.A. Informants, China Crippled U.S. Spying Operations .  But the New York Times is sketchy in its spook coverage. Trowbridge H. Ford wrote in 2008 –

“Take, for example, James Risen’s articles about the Bureau’s Robert Hanssen when he was exposed as having been a long-time KGB spy.  In his long exposé in The New York Times, there was no inkling of what information Hanssen, a strong anti-communist, passed along to Vladimir Kryuchkov’s FCD of the Moscow spy agency – what would be most germane to explain why a member of Opus Dei and a friend of FBI director Louis Freeh felt compelled to spy for the Soviets.

The big story about the spy round-up in China is the terrible revenge the US intel and military took.

Trowbridge H. Ford elaborates –

“[Hugh] Redmond’s mission the next year was to infiltrate as a foreign illegal operative, posing as a business man, the newly established communist regime with agents recruited from Shanghai in the hope of mounting resistance against it through acts of sabotage. (p. 50) Redmond was simply rounded up, though, by the communist authorities as a security measure, and languished in prison for the next nineteen years after having been convicted of espionage in 1954. In 1970, just when young Robert Gates – the current Secretary of Defense – was starting his career with the Agency in earnest, it was shocked to learn that Redmond had finally committed suicide after a covert ransom plan, involving famous Americans, and a $1,000,000 in Agency funds, to gain his release had failed.

And then there was the plight of other agents, and missionaries who finally were freed by Beijing. China, in sum, was the biggest source of losses by the CIA, even bigger than the former USSR, and it was high time for a payback for all its setbacks – what former DCI George Tenet had started with the laser-guided bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade during the campaign to force Serbia’s Slobodan Milosevic to withdraw his forces from Kosovo, due to its “faulty information”. Gup concluded: “This was paired with scandalous accounts of Chinese spying at U.S. nuclear weapons labs and wholesale theft of America’s most sensitive secrets.” (p.371) . . .”

“… the US Air Force turned the aim of its space weapons upon targets northwest of the Sichuan area in China, the desert where its qanats were attacked, causing a minor earthquake which loosened the connections between the Indian and Asian plates, hoping to destabilize the connections at their other end where the threats of underground facilities collapsing, landslides, rock falls, cave-ins, dams bursting, viaduct failures and the like had been increased by Chinese secret development of the area. It was all very similar to what the USS Jimmy Carter did to the Indian-Australian plate’s connection to the Antarctic one in anticipation of the earthquake which occurred two days later where it met the Burmese one.”

“… On May 12th [2008], the devastating earthquake happened, burying everything in the area in rubble except for those places which had a firm rock foundation. Beichuan city, thanks to a rippled effect it received from the epicenter, was simply buried in rubble – what no kind of earthquake protection building would have prevented – and the Chinese government has simply left untouched as a memorial to the dead. The underground nuclear assembly plant, and nuclear weapons storage sites high in the mountains received the same fate. The testing site at Dashita was so severely damaged that its nuclear reactor exploded during the earthquake, but was completely covered in the ensuing rubble as if the Chinese themselves had programmed its destruction as if it were simply a test.”

America’s Pivot To Far East: How To Make & Exploit New Enemies

13 05 2017

Trowbridge H. Ford

The United States has had a long history of making enemies in seeking and controlling the world, but since the settlement of the Cuban Missile Crisis, it has slowly learned how to make new enemies, and exploit them for its strategic advantage. The process required developing new military technology, learning how to use them, developing new strategies and new forces for their use, providing new security blankets for their not being disclosed, having a flexible mentality for what is necessary when it comes to actual operations, and not being too concerned about constitutional requirements for its execution, often just dismissing it as deranged conspiracy theory. Of course, the whole change resulted in some failures, some unexpected good luck, and a lot of evil.

It really got going with the Reagan Administration’s repudiation of the strategy of MAD, Mutually Assured Destruction, which promised an endless struggle, and a most expensive one is keeping up. In the past the Soviet Union had managed to do so without a nuclear conflagration. and some more inventive and hopefully less expensive was sought. The strategists finally settled upon Joseph Nye’s Nuclear Ethics which called for catching the enemy by surprise which incapacitated its nuclear forces with far fewer human losses. The problems of achieving one would require new scientific breakthroughs about how to fight without nuclear weapons, more detailed intelligence to locate targets and wipe them out, provide arrangements for the necessary cleanup, and most importantly keeping the lid on what was going on.

The beginning of the new order started with a new effort by the Pentagon, headed by Admiral James ‘Ace’ Lyons, to provoke the Soviets into a deadly response to the latest naval challenge, known also as NATO’s Able Archer exercise,, as Gregory Vistica has written in Fall From Glory: The Men Who Sank the U.S. Navy. It proved so threatening that Moscow responded with Operation RYAN for fear that Washington was going to spring a first strike on the USSR. “ RYAN’s purpose,” Professor Christopher Andrew has profusely written in The Sword And The Shield,”to collect intelligence on the presumed, but non-existent plans of the Reagan administration to launch a nuclear first strike against the Soviet Union – a delusion which reflected both the KGB’s continuing failure to penetrate the policy-making of the Main Adversary and its recurrent tendency to conspiracy theory.” (p. 213)

In this context, the development of lasers, especially light and noise ones, came in most nicely. By being able to create beams 10,000 times great than those from the sun, and could shake seabeds to smithereens, satellites and then submarines offered idle vehicles for their use. In fact, the Pentagon got early involved by having its Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) concentrating on weapons of war rather then what Gordon Gould, one of the laser’s inventors, wanted “ Perhaps,” Jeff Hecht has written in Beam: The Race to Make the Laser, “eventually Gould suggested, lasers could be made powerful enough to destroy a nuclear missile before it reached its target.” (p 75)

With such an endorsement, it was hardly surprising that the Reagan administration made it the center piece of its Star Wars program, only the laser satellite was given the less difficult task of stopping a Soviet ICBM on launch rather than in full flight. To better the intelligence of where the Soviets would launch, William Casey’s Central Intelligence Agency developed operation to locate such a sites. Operation Eastbound, a sensor mission to locate where the Soviets were preparing ICBMs for launch, went ahead with the Toshiba Company sending a cargo container full of them along there Trans Siberian Railroad. The CIA even bugged the central network in Moscow to see how the Soviet leadership reacted to some international surprise, reminiscent of how it had bugged these facilities In Vienna and Berlin. Also, Washington had its killer subs intrude more dangerously in Soviet waters, especially the White and Barents Seas, to be there to react to any Soviet response. See Appendix C in Sherry Sontag and Christopher Drew’s Blind Man’s Bluff: The Untold Story of American Submarine Espionage, pp. 425-27.

All that was needed now was something to trigger a surprise, and it was provided by Sweden’s Prime Minister Olof Palme when he stopped a shipment of 80 HAWK missile through the country from Israel to Iran in violation of Operation Stealth, a program that he was to oversee so no arms shipments went to the participants in the Iran-Iraq War. Palme was expected to approve a user certificate that the arms were for Sweden, so that Israel would be resupplied for the transfer of the essentially obsolete missiles. Iran-Contra operation leader Oliver North even went to Stockholm to get Palme to change his mind but he refused, making what had happened an impeachable offense of President Reagan if it was disclosed.

To help cover up the problem, Washington went ahead hurriedly to launch a new Lacrosse satellite on the Challenger shuttle as the first one in space had stopped functioning, and the launch failed devastatingly almost immediately. Washington, still without a laser satellite to shoot down any ICMB if Moscow reacted rashly in response to a surprise, went ahead with its planned non-nuclear conclusion to the Cold War, triggered by Palme’s assassination.

Fortunately, Moscow had developed spies, particularly the Agency’s Aldrich ‘ Rick’ Ames, the Bureau’s Robert Hansen, the Mossad’s Jonathan Pollard, and several in the US Navy, so it was not caught by surprise his shooting, as the Red Navy’s killer and boomer subs were comfortably in place to launch a secondary ICBM strike if a second one proved necessary, and Moscow had 82 unknown SS-23 nuclear-armed missiles in western Russia and East Germany, as Mark Urban has explained in UK Eyes Alpha to win any war if the shooting started (p. 290), leaving what the Lacrosse satellites could accomplish an unknown until 1988 when a replacement was finally put in space while the Soviet Bloc and the USSR were going down the tubes.

The growing possible fallout from the final end of the Iran-Iraq War brought back into focus what the Lacrosse satellites could accomplish. The big question was what would Tehran do if the western allies, led by the USA, cut troublesome Saddam Hussein down to size, possibly ousting him. A shooting war with it was out of the question, and the Iraqi leader might seek sanctuary for his most valuable assets, once it started. To keep Iran on side in any conflict, Danny Stillman, a weapons designer at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, recommended that the Pentagon try to cause an earthquake by hitting its qanats, underground facilities with many entrances for collecting water, with air borne lasers. The result was a big quake, northwest of Tehran, on June 21,1990.

Little wonder that GW Bush resorted to the same tactic as his father when it came time to keep Iran in December 2003 from taking advantage of the capture of Saddam after the Second Gulf War , hitting the qanat system for ancient city of Bam with laser beams, causing ultimately a deadly, 6.6 surface quake killing over 25,000 Iranians. By this time, this covert weapon had gained bipartisan presidential support. President Clinton had used it in 1999 to punish Turkey’s Bulent Ecevic in NATO for providing Yugoslavia’s Slobodan Milosovic with its bombing targets during the campaign to get it to withdraw from Kosovo, resulting in the quake in Izmit near its nuclear generating plant which started his political decline as its leader, and the bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade for acting as a conduit of military information for the Serbian leader.

The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) which designed, and saw to the production of such missiles that it had replaced the National Security Agency aka No Such Agency as the government’s most powerful, secret organization. It had so much cash that it built a new headquarters in Vienna, Virginia without congressional knowledge or approval. It allowed the apparent murder of a too nosy, security guard, Tina Rocca, to go too unreported and rectified. It was so desirous of publicizing its accomplishments that it made a shoulder patch for NRO employees, entitled “We Own The Night”, showing black and white satellites circumventing the globe as radar and SIGINT sources of power and intelligence.

This pushing the prowess of the Air Force forced the troubled US Navy to join the fray for similar resources. In return for US aid, Iran agreed to IAEA inspection of its nuclear sites. After many weapons and personnel problems with finishing the latest attack sub, USS Jimmy Carter, it was rushed to completion. Before it had even been commissioned, it was sent off from New London by its CNO Vern Clark by a rousing speech in the fall of 2004 on an unexplained secret mission which would only end four months later. Seems that it finally reached the Auckland Islands, southwest of New Zealand, in December, and had its noise lasers trigger a quake which broke the Indian-Australian plate off from the Antarctic one just after Christmas, causing a bigger one a few days later off Indonesia’s Aceh which triggered those massive tsunamis around the Indian Ocean which Joe Vialls claimed was the result of a nuclear explosion, killing around 250,000, mostly Muslims. The USS Carter then returned, “flying the broom”, an unprecedented sign of a great victory over the enemy in wartime as it entered its home port.

This ended the revenge attacks in response to Al-Qaeda’s suicide bombings on 9/11, and covert government had to find a new rational for continuing the war. Man-made earthquakes and tsunamis, though less devastating than nuclear weapons, were still too powerful, and could not be arranged everywhere, though they still had a role to play as Robert Gate’s parting gift from the Pentagon to China demonstrated in May 2008 with that destruction of its scientific facilities in mountainous Sichuan by a most unexpected quake, and the collapse of the anti-American New Democracy government in Japan followed the Tohoku quake and tsunami led the the Fukushima disaster. Still, A more limited, controllable means was needed to fight America’s wars with its enemies.

While man-made quakes could cut down potential enemies to size, they could be made to look like they were more powerful, even existent, than they were. If quakes could be made to look like natural occurrences, they could be claimed too to be nuclear tests, especially if the perpetrator had powerful instruments to spread such propaganda while the target had little means to. Moreover, it would spread fear of nuclear annihilation among populations while getting them to go along with more covert ones to prevent them.

The outline to the pivot to Asia is contained in Thomas Reed and Danny Stillman’s The Nuclear Express where the 9/11 attacks are made out to be the precursor of now nuclear ones, especially by rogue North Korea. The source of the claims is from captured Pakistani physicist A. Q. Khan who confessed about how he helped get Iran and Libya obtain centrifuges and plans for making nuclear weapons, and North Korea is covertly going wild with the intelligence after the U. S. State Department had named them and others as “state sponsors of terrorism” in 2002, though the North had done nothing about it up until then, though there was no mention of any earthquakes at all in the book, and who and what might have been causing them.

In the book’s chronology, it makes the case that North Korea, and somewhat less its sponsor China, is the one to worry about. In 2004. Khan confessed,
there was a worldwide nuclear network, managed by him, which has been selling nuclear technology to it and other rogue states (p. 379). Three years later, North Korea at the Six Power Talks suggested that it may close down its nuclear program when the previous year it had already exploded a low- grade bomb covertly. The basis for this claim was the report by seismological sources that North Korea had suffered a 4 .3 earthquake on the Richter scale on October 9, 2006 around where its nuclear test site is located.

The same conflation of quakes into tests occurred during the ones on May 25, 2009, February 12, 2013, January 6,2018, and September second the same year, and they became a a debatable bit stronger. And, of course, North Korea didn’t have a clue about what was causing the quakes, and was happy to go along claims that it was becoming nuclear stronger. It even publicly destroyed a reactor’s nuclear cooling-tower at the Yongbyon site in 2008 to show that it couldn’t be conducting underground tests without experiencing a Fukushima disaster of its own.

The Nuclear Express concluded that it was up to the next President, Obama at the time, and Trump now, to prevent it from coming off the rails without any serious explanation of why it risked happening.

Hinckley Release Final Cover Up Of Gipper Shooting Can’t Talk About Being Stalker To Gain White House

5 04 2017

By Trowbridge H. Ford

John Hinckley was the most conspicuous victim of the October surprise which resulted in Reagan becoming POTUS.

First recruited by CIA to stalk President Carter so much that he didn’t campaign sufficiently, only for his minders to discover that Carter’s people had apparently arranged the return of the American hostages in Tehran after Hinckley’s services were no longer thought to be necessary.

Hastily, his minders, headed by CIA assassination director Ted Shackley, made Mark David Chapman John Lennon’s killer in the hope that it would keep Carter supporters away from the polls, but he couldn’t arrange it until after the election, and they went ahead with it because they wanted still to settle scores with the troublesome Brit.

Hinckley went berserk over the killing, even attending his funeral, as Lennon was the only person he really loved. He wasn’t able, though, to get to his former director, Vice President George H. W. Bush, settling for The Gipper to impress actress Jodi Foster, and the SS [Secret Service] didn’t consider him a threat to the POTUS.

Now the feds don’t want the public to hear anything about his side of the story.

A History of America’s National Reconnaissance Office – part 3

4 06 2012

By Trowbridge H. Ford

The trouble with the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) taking on heavy responsibilities in the covert war in Vietnam, and trying to shore up support domestically for its continuance is that it had the most shadowy existence and legitimacy which were highly likely to be exposed as the operations involved so many personnel, and caused so much damage, both physically and psychologically.  Operation Phoenix was an intense effort to break the political will of the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese – what had started with Operation Plan 34A in February 1964 in the North – throughout the area by targeting their leadership, while NRO intercepts of communications with Cuba were intended to reveal how  Americans were using enemy funds, especially from Hanoi, to undermine the nation’s will in the war.
The shaky basis upon which the NRO was operating on was well demonstrated when the Pentagon finally released the Department of Defense Directive upon which it was based – a mere updating of a most short 1962 one on March 17, 1964 – what was a consequence of National Security Action Memorandum 288, issued the same day, and was intended to carry out the recommendations of Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, who had just come back from Vietnam, a day earlier.  They were all seen as necessary steps of a last-ditch effort to prevent all of Southeast Asia from falling to the communists.
It was McNamara who recommended retaliatory actions against North Vietnam – overt high and/or low-level reconnaissance flights to locate the Viet Cong’s sources of supply, the bombing of strategic targets, commando raids on installations of tactical importance, and the mining of North Vietnamese ports – in order to insure South Vietnam’s independence.  “That objective, while being cast in terms of eliminating North Vietnamese control and direction of the insurgency, would in practical terms be directed toward collapsing the morale and self-assurance of the Viet Cong cadres now operating in South Vietnam and bolstering the morale of the Khanh regime.”  (Quoted from The Pentagon Papers, paperback ed., p. 280.)
To facilitate the implementation of these recommendations, the NSAM 288 was agreed to, and the DoD Directive issued. The Directive’s legality was based upon provisions regarding maintaining the security of the CIA in the 1947 National Security Act, and as amended by the Department of Defense Reorganization Act of 1958.  The Top Secret document did little more than recognize the NRO’s existence, and the duty of its director to coordinate and consolidate all the government’s satellite operations into one program, and to perform some other function whose nature was blackened out by the censor’s pen when it was declassified but whose content must have been about aerial reconnaissance necessary for McNamara’s plans.
This assumption is furthered by the fact that the agencies the NRO was to work with – apparently NSA, the CIA, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, especially the Office of the Special Assistant for Counterinsurgency and Special Activities headed by Major General Rollen Anthis, the Military Assistance Command in Saigon, the State Department, and other intelligence agencies – were somehow missing when the document was released. The administration firmly believed that the Viet Cong was controlled and directed from Hanoi, and once its infrastructure and will was broken, the insurgency in the South would collapse.
Three years of Rolling Thunder air attacks in the North while increasing American ground troops in the South to protect the most fragile government in Saigon proved these assumptions unfounded – as the Tet offensive of February 1968 proved – and leading hawks in Washington, starting with SOD McNamara, began reassessing their positions, and leaving the government when their revised views went unheeded.  The still committed hawks would not tolerate any idea of settling for anything but victory, and they secretly worked behind the scenes to extend covert operations throughout the whole area because of the shortage of troops to launch a conventional offensive in the hope of breaking the infrastructure and will of the Viet Cong itself – Operation Phoenix.
The Operation has often been confused with other kinds of military actions – SWIFT boat patrols which encountered resistance, the results of ‘search and destroy’ campaigns by organized military forces, patrols which ended in wild firefights, and the like. The confusion regarding naval patrols was well demonstrated when former SWIFT boat sailors challenged Senator John F. Kerry when he charged during the 2004 presidential campaign that they had engaged in war crimes – what Kerry could not substantiate.  The same confusion surrounds the My Lai massacre in 1968 when Lt. William Calley’s platoon was caught shooting up a village while in pursuit of a Viet Cong force – what helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson, who died during the campaign too, stopped at gun point, and ferried the survivors to safety.
Operation Phoenix is usually sanitized into merely an overly aggressive search for intelligence about insurgents where torture was even resorted to.  William Blum, citing David Wise’s article “Colby of the CIA – CIA of Colby” in a 1973 issue of The New York Times Magazine, wrote this in Rogue State:  “The notorious Operation Phoenix, set up by the CIA to wipe out the Viet Cong infrastructure, subjected suspects to torture such as electric shock to the genitals of both men and women, and the insertion into the ear of a six-inch dowel, which was tapped through the brain until the victim died; suspects were also thrown out of airborne helicopters to persuade the more important suspects to talk, although this should probably be categorized as murder of the ones thrown out, and a form of torture for those not.” (p. 52)
Actually, Operation Phoenix was a most sophisticated system of terror where violations of  international law often took place: aassaults, ambushes and assassinations, generally at night, regularly occurred; renditions of those surviving routinely followed to places where comprehensive torture was carried out until the suspects were considered spent; and then they were simply executed.  Aerial intelligence by the NRO was absolutely essential in all its operations as it was only after it had been taken, collected and analyzed could covert operators decide what targets to assault, and how. The instrument used was increasingly satellites as their passage overhead of any possible target would not tip-off the inhabitants of what was possibly afoot.  Operation Phoenix, in short, was the ultimate when it came to death squads.
If anyone is still in any doubt about the brutality of Operation Phoenix, he should consider the people who really ran it, and the evaluations by competent judges of its character.  British covert operators, especially those in the dreaded SAS, considered American special forces, especially the Green Berets and Navy Seals, unnecessarily vicious in carrying out their missions. For example, Ken Connor, in Ghost Force: The Secret History of the SAS, noted that they did not live and learn from the people they were trying to pacify, preferring to “get them by the balls”  when it came to winning their hearts and minds.  “The American inability – or refusal – to distinguish between combatants and civilians led,” he concluded, “to the brutal treatment of whole sectors of the population…” (p. 145)
This result was hardly unexpected since the CIA operative conducting Phoenix was Ted  ‘Blond Ghost’ Shackley who had been William King Harvey’s boss in Berlin during the tunnel operation in the 1950s, and in Miami during the Missile Crisis before he became station chief in Vientiane, Laos. It was while leading a guerrilla force of 20,000 Hmong tribesmen against the Pathet Lao, allies of the North Vietnamese, that he built up the skills considered necessary for running the operation, and he spared no option in terror when making up for not having stopped communism during the Missile Crisis.  Shackley was successful enough in his efforts to become Saigon station chief after the containment of the Tet offensive in 1968.
The only trouble in using such an operation in saving the war in Vietnam was that it might be completely upset in Washington by the election of a peace platform, headed by a different President. In that case, everything would be for naught, so Phoenix’s domestic side, headed by Harvey in New Orleans, prepared for the worst. He aka William Wood and Bill Boxley had been in a tailspin ever since the Dallas cock-up, and had been activated by DDCI Helms to make sure that Jim Garrison’s hunt for JFK’s killers did not get anywhere.  Of course, Harvey, the massive, pistol-packing operator, had all the right connections with the Agency’s Science and Technology Division, the Mafia, especially Sam Giancana’s and Carlos Marcello’s people, and hardliners in Hoover’s FBI.
Hardly had Senator Robert Kennedy declared that the war was unwinnable, and Martin Luther King organized his Poor People’s Campaign, highlighted by a march on Washington to protest LBJ’s failure to follow through on his 1964 Great Society promises – what helped lead the beleaguered President to announce a bombing halt in Vietnam, and that he would not seek re-election – than Harvey maneuvered a programmed James Earl Ray into position in Memphis to assassinate him. Then when Kennedy picked up the peace mantle, and as President would appoint an independent commission to investigate the plot which assassinated his brother, Harvey had Sirhan Sirhan programmed as a decoy in his murder while security guard Thane Cesar killed him after his crucial victory in the California primary. (For more on this, see my article in Issue Eight of Eye Spy magazine, “Manchurian Candidates: Mind-Control Experiments and The Deadliest Secrets of the Cold War,” pp. 50-55, and my articles* about Harvey, Helms, and Peter Wright in’sTrowbridge Archive.)
Of course, Harvey’s tasks were to recruit people like Ray and Sirhan – persons with disassociated personalities which could be manipulated unconsciously by drugs and hypnosis – in ways which would involve no suspicions that the CIA was involved, to see that they were programmed to do what was required without any recall, and leave no tracks which could be retraced back to him and the Agency if the assassinations resulted in anything more than usual murder investigations. The essential responsibility was to get other agencies, especially the Secret Service, the FBI and other agencies – with input from the NRO – involved in ways which would keep Harvey and his colleagues informed of how affairs were developing, and at the same time providing a firewall against any blowback if plans went awry again, or serious concerns were raised about these assassinations.
Given MLK’s campaign against Giancana’s exploitation of blacks in Chicago, it was easy for Momo’s lieutenant Johnny Rosselli to recruit Ray after he escaped from the Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City, and made his way slowly with Raoul apparently aka Jules Ricco Kimble to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico as a Momo bagman.  In doing so, he alerted Mexican federal police that he might be involved in drug-trafficking, but they made no attempt to arrest the fugitive – indicating that he was under surveillance in a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) sting. In the resort, Ray was re-directed back to LA by Giancana’s people where he was checked out by Agency consultant Dr. Mark O. Freeman as to his suitability in being made a programmed assassin.
Then Ray was taken by Charles Stein, a criminal well-connected to Marcello, and a former resident of New Orleans, where he was checked out by Harvey for the MLK job after the operator had provided a complete cover up of the meeting as David E. Scheim indicated in Contract America:  “According to the House Assassinations Committee, Ray took the ‘possibly sinister’ trip with a specific important objective, accomplished it rapidly, met with someone in New Orleans and received money on the trip.” (p. 317)
While the HAC would have us believe that Ray met some subordinates of Marcello in the Provincial Hotel to arrange MLK’s killing – what it was unable to find any evidence of – he actually met Harvey in his safe house where he was okayed for the operation.  This was proven when he got back to LA, and Rev. Xavier von Koss hypnotized him to kill King under certain specific circumstances, and subjected him to a program of psychic driving to help induce it. (For a completely false explanation of the meeting – one which provides all kinds of evidence to refute its own conclusion, see Gerald Posner, Killing the Dream: James Earl Ray and the Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., p. 208ff.)
While this article is not a detailed explanation of either the MLK or the RFK assassination, I think that what I have written so far indicates why the FBI, BNDD, and Secret Service – and ultimately the NRO – got involved in monitoring the activities of both Ray and Sirhan. He had similar connections with the Mafia, problems with the authorities in New York and Miami because of the criminal activities by his boss Frank Donneroummas aka Henry Ramistella, and experience with drugs and hypnotists in LA too – what is grounds for thinking Harvey made him into a Manchurian candidate because of his hatred of RFK, and what he apparently did to MLK.
Stein’s driving Ray to New Orelans would obviously get the BNDD involved, as he was reputedly selling narcotics in the city at the time.  Ray’s own escape from the American and Mexican authorities while on the run indicates quite clearly that they were hunting bigger game, especially Marcello.  And the Secret Service, after the fiasco in Dallas, was almost paranoid about the same thing happening to LBJ – what would make it most concerned about how the activities of Cubans, pro and con Fidel, fitted into all this.
And Sirhan was programmed behind a similar smokescreen.  Instead of a Mafioso like Marcello seeing, it seems, to his hiring, it was a Southern California rancher who put out a contract on Kennedy because of his support of Cesar Chavez’s farm workers, and someone overheard a subordinate of Jimmy Hoffa’s, apparently Carmine Galente, in the Lewisburg (Pa.) federal penitentiary discussing his execution in a way reminiscent to how Ray was hired and sprung by Giancana’s people to get MLK while in the Missouri one.
RFK, considered America’s worst turncoat by its covert leadership, suspected that Hoffa was behind his brother’s assassination, and had had an aide recklessly inform Jim Garrison of his suspicions!  This obviously became most dangerous to RFK, increasingly seen as the next President, when Harvey infiltrated the investigation, and kept the Agency informed about developments in New Orleans, as Vincent Salandria, one of the few respectable critics of the Warren Report who claimed that the JFK assassination was the result of a government conspiracy, belatedly informed the District Attorney:  “Jim, I’m afraid your friend, Bill Boxley, works for the federal government.”  (Quoted from Jim Garrison, On the Trail of the Assassins, p. 221.)
Sirhan suffered from compulsive gambling, constantly involved in shady deals to pay off the consequent debts. More important, Sirhan, being a Christian refugee from Palestine who could barely speak Arabic, emigrated to the States in 1956 after a terrifying childhood, and was often complaining about their plight to the folks back home, especially to his father who had returned causing security officials concerned about where his pan-Arabism may lead, especially after Nasser’s forces had been humiliated in the 1967 Six Day War. While he was compulsively writing and saying threats about RKF – part of his programming – officialdom apparently only thought that they pertained to LBJ since the President was responsible for the help to Israel that so angered Sirhan.
The growing connection between what was going on in Vietnam with developments back home was enhanced by things which had nothing to do with the assassinations of MLK and RFK – just information leaking out which could cause people to make the association.  In the June 1966 issue of Ramparts magazine, Stanley Sheinbaum, who had been the coordinator of a Michigan State University project to assist the economic development of South Vietnam, provided an exposé of how the CIA had manipulated the program to serve its covert agenda, and threatened to expose more Agency interference in domestic organizations.
In investigating the magazine, hoping to find communist infiltration of the organization, the CIA discovered that its most outspoken author was former Green Beret Donald Duncan – whose book The New Legions, condemning the training and operations of his former colleagues, caused some of them and many citizens to gain a new political consciousness – who only promised more.  “We will continue to be in danger,” he wrote to DCI Helms, “as long as the CIA is deciding policy and manipulating nations.” (Quoted from Angus MacKenzie, Secrets, p. 17.)
It was Ramparts which even got Dr. King concerned about the plight of the Vietnamese, his close associate, and later public defender William F. Pepper writing an article, entitled “The Children of Vietnam,” in the January 1967 issue about the US Army’s brutal treatment of their offspring.  As Pepper wrote recently in An Act of State: The Execution of Martin Luther King, it was his files that induced King “…not only to formally announce his opposition to that war but to actively work and organize against it in every corner of America he visited.” (p. 5)
It was in this context that the NRO was brought into the hunt for the communists, traitors, and drug lords by the BNDD, the Secret Service, and the FBI who were thought to be undermining the national will in Vietnam.  As NSA director Lt. Gen. Lew Allen testified in 1975 before the Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities aka Church Committee, in 1967 the United States Intelligence Board tasked it to intercept all communications that Americans had overseas regarding drug trafficking, Executive protection, and foreign influence over US groups.  In the six-year period the program was working, the NRO supplied 2,000 reports regarding drug trafficking, and 1,900 ones regarding possible terrorism and foreign manipulation of domestic political activity.
While James Bamford has portrayed the program in Body of Secrets: How America’s NSA and Britain’s GCHQ Eavesdrop on the World as a rogue one, conceived by its paranoid deputy director Louis Tordella, which was essentially concerned with making watch lists of subversives (p. 428ff), it was authorized by the White House, and it concerned primarily what people were saying and doing about all these things. While Bamford was most concerned with what the CIA, Bureau, and the DIA were doing about the reported activities of people like MLK, Dr. Benjamin Spock, actress Jane Fonda, and singer Joan Baez, he made no mention of the BNDD, and what its requested intercepts involved – what led to all kinds disinformation which Harvey and his agents took cruel advantage of in the assassinations of MLK and RFK.
Of course, by the time that Watergate occurred, and covert activities by the Nixon White House started leaking out, what the NRO had supplied to the process was ancient history, and by the time the NSA was obliged to testify about its role, what its reconnaissance agency had done seemed of little consequence.  When General Allen was obliged to testify before the Church Committee, he mentioned this without the slightest response from committee members.  “NSA did not retain any of the BNDD watch lists or product.  It was destroyed in the fall of 1973, since there seemed no purpose or requirement to retain it.” (For more, see Bamford, p. 428ff.)  Independent investigators might have had different ideas, once they saw how deeply involved the BNDD was in following all the activities of the leading Mafiosos, and anti-Castro Cubans – what had cleared the way for Harvey.
By then, NRO director Dr. Alexander Flax, its public face, had long departed the scene.  He retired with the arrival of the new Nixon administration back in March 1969.  Apollo 8, the Lunar Orbit and Return, had safely been completed just before Christmas, and with the election of a candidate allegedly committed to achieving peace in Vietnam, it was an ideal time to go.
